As a Plant Operator Apprentice based in the High Peak and working across the North West, your main responsibility will involve working towards the Level 2 Construction Plant Operative (ST0505) apprenticeship standard. You will gain practical experience on active civil engineering sites, where you will learn to operate various construction plant machinery safely and effectively. Your role will contribute to infrastructure projects such as highways, drainage, utilities, and groundwork.
Key Responsibilities: - Operating plant equipment in line with site requirements and training level - Performing pre-start, running, and shutdown checks on plant machinery - Supporting excavation, lifting, grading, and material movement activities - Following work instructions, method statements, and risk assessments - Maintaining plant equipment in a clean and serviceable condition - Communicating effectively with site teams, including banksmen and supervisors - Adhering strictly to health, safety, and environmental regulations - Supporting general site duties as required - Accurately recording information such as daily checks, logs, and defects - Actively participating in training, assessments, and coursework
Apprenticeship Standard (ST0505): During the programme, you will develop competence in: Knowledge: - Types of construction plant and their uses - Health, safety, and environmental legislation - Risk assessments and safe systems of work - Basic maintenance and inspection requirements - Site operations and communication methods
Skills: - Operating plant machinery safely and efficiently - Carrying out pre-use checks and identifying faults - Interpreting site instructions and documentation - Working collaboratively with site teams - Maintaining safe working practices in live environments

Entry Requirements: Essential: - Interest in construction and civil engineering - Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions - Strong commitment to health and safety - Good communication and teamwork skills - Reliable and punctual - Ability to travel between project sites - Full UK driving licence
Desirable: - GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English - CSCS card - Basic mechanical or construction knowledge
