Work

As an apprentice, you'll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You'll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you'll do at work

  • Assist with site preparation, including clearing and setting out work areas
  • Support excavation activities using hand tools and machinery (under supervision)
  • Help install drainage systems, including pipes and fittings
  • Assist with concreting, including mixing, pouring, and finishing
  • Support the construction of foundations, pavements, and kerbing
  • Load and unload materials and distribute them around site
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times
  • Work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with colleagues and supervisors

Training

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 3)
  • Maths (grade 3)
