Work

As an apprentice, you'll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You'll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you'll do at work

Structural Engineering Technicians help turn engineering ideas into real, buildable designs. They use digital tools and 3D modelling software to produce drawings, plans and models that show exactly how buildings, bridges and other structures will be
constructed.

Working closely with engineers and architects, they help solve technical problems, check that designs are safe and efficient, and make sure everything is clearly communicated for the construction team. It’s a hands on, creative and technical role - perfect for someone who enjoys problem solving, design, and seeing projects
come to life.

We'll make sure you have a solid introduction to the business and our people, to set you up for success. Mentored by the best, you'll then get stuck into a range of work across our vast portfolio of projects. The role will be varied and will include:

  • Full training on our technical software (CAD, Revit) and learning by working on live projects from the get-go
  • Learning about BIM standards and workflows
  • Learning how to produce detailed structural drawing packs suitable for various project stages from concept design to construction
  • Learning how to produce accurate model geometry using Revit from which drawing content is produced
  • Working across a variety of construction sectors
  • Learning about project standards, including BEP’s and EIR’s
  • Collaborating with other professionals: architects, surveyors, M&E, contractors
  • Translating theoretical knowledge from your college course into practical design scenarios
