Work

As an apprentice, you'll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You'll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you'll do at work

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fire and Security Apprentice at a growing company based at Birtley.

You will be shadowing an engineer where you will be undertaking tasks that involve installation of Fire Detection Systems, Intruder Alarms, Access Control Systems, Video Entry and CCTV.

This is an excellent opportunity to progress and grow within the company for the right person who is enthusiastic and wants to learn new skills.

The role will be very varied and will include the following duties:

  • Working in line with health and safety guidelines
  • Installing fire and security alarm systems such as CCTV, Access Control systems and Intruder Alarms
  • Installing cabling – first fix
  • Using a range of hand held tools and cordless drill 
  • Liaising with customers on site
  • Updating paperwork on site

Salary will be reviewed every 6 months.

It would be advantageous for the applicant to have previously studied electrical engineering at level 2.

Driving licence would be beneficial or be keen to learn – if required, you will be collected from home and dropped off on a daily basis.

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Other requirements

On the rare occasion, may be required to work away from home. On these occasions, the company will provide all accommodation and a meal allowance.
