Work

As an apprentice, you'll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You'll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you'll do at work

As a Civil Engineering Technician Advanced Apprentice in our Structures team in Cambridge one day can be completely different to the next. You will have the opportunity to learn new skills using specialist software suited to the area of the business you are working in. 

Your tasks could include:

  • Working with project leads to process information for existing plans, producing data sheets, data collection and analysis
  • Taking concepts and ideas from architects or engineers and creating software drawings and designs
  • Helping to establish structural requirements to meet the project need
  • Supporting with reports and information for our clients

Training

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training plan

  • You will attend College to study a Level 3 Civil Engineering apprenticeship and gain a BTEC, as well as your IEngTech status with the Institution of Civil Engineers
  • You will be enrolled onto a bespoke internal development programme to support you to attain the knowledge, skills and behaviour that will help you successfully achieve your apprenticeship, and support your career in Civil Engineering.
  • You will have the support of your team, line manager, mentor and buddy as well as a dedicated early careers team

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • 5 GCSEs including English, Maths, Science (grade Grade 5 or above)
