Work

As an apprentice, you'll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You'll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you'll do at work

On a day-to-day basis as an apprentice, you will be doing the following:

  • Hands-on Installation: Learn how to correctly remove old windows and doors and complete the precise installation of high-quality replacements.
  • Technical Finishing: Learn the "art" of the trade, including applying silicone seals, fitting internal trims, and ensuring a perfect finish.
  • Tool Mastery: Gain confidence using a wide range of specialised manual and power tools under expert supervision.
  • Site Management: Take responsibility for loading/unloading materials and maintaining a clean, organised workspace to ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Precision Measuring: Work alongside senior installers to learn how to take accurate measurements and check levels for a perfect fit.
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow strict Health and Safety regulations and building codes to protect yourself, the team, and the customer’s property.
  • Customer Relations: Act as a professional representative of the company, providing polite service and maintaining a tidy home environment for clients.
  • Cross Trade Exposure: Work alongside our wider maintenance teams, gaining insight into flooring, minor carpentry and associated remedial works that often complement window and door installations.
  • Problem Solving on Site: Learn how different trades coordinate together on live projects, understanding sequencing, access requirements and how to avoid clashes between works.
  • Finishing and Making Good: Develop skills in basic making good, including trim work and minor adjustments that ensure a professional handover to the customer.
  • Understanding the Bigger Picture: Gain awareness of how installations link to ventilation, damp control and building performance, especially within social housing environments.
  • Professional Standards: Observe how experienced team members manage client expectations, maintain compliance standards and deliver work that meets housing provider specifications.
