Summary

You will be involved in varied areas of civil engineering: major earthworks, drainage, structures (under-bridges, over-bridges, viaducts) and energy sector projects. The apprenticeship will include day release to university to gain a degree in civil engineering, professional membership qualifications and on the job training.

Work

As an apprentice, you'll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You'll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you'll do at work

Civil Engineers Apprentices provide support to Civil Engineers who design, build and manage construction projects with our design teams.

Some of the activities could be:

  • Assist in the control of sites to ensure work is conducted safely, effectively and to the correct quality and standards
  • Understand and integrate design information to ensure it is fit for purpose
  • Assist and contribute to planning and setting up of work sites
  • Assist in the monitoring and control of contract works and understand how to implement corrective action when required
  • Assist in preparation of material requirements, prepare orders, monitor supply and maintain records

Where you'll work

Training

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Essential qualifications

A Level in:

  • Maths (grade 7 or above)
  • Relevant Discipline (grade Distinction)
  • BTEC Extended Diploma (grade DDM)
  • A Levels (104 to 120 UCAS) (grade BCC to BBB)
