Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Work safely, following health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Follow building regulations, quality standards and work instructions.
  • Work to schedules, adapting to changes when needed.
  • Prepare sites, materials and tools for each project.
  • Build walls with brick and block to industry standards.
  • Carry out minor masonry repairs or modifications.
  • Work with clients, site teams and other trades.
  • Keep worksites clear, safe and environmentally responsible.
  • Continue professional development to stay up to date.
  • Safely handle, move and lift materials on site.

Your training plan

The apprenticeship training is delivered through a combination of workplace learning and regular college attendance. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the Bricklayer Level 2 standard. On completion, the apprentice will receive an NRQ Bricklayer Level 2 qualification. Functional Skills in Maths and English may also be required depending on current level.
