Electrical Installation Apprentice

Summary

Working for MPS Energy you will be supporting and working with a fully qualified electrician at all times. The work is varied and you will be working on projects ranging from building management installations, controls work and standard electrical installations including some testing, this is in both commercial and industrial sectors.

Hours
Lunch is half an hour each day, engineers are paid from door to door including travel. Engineers will have regular times of staying away which keeps travel time down but could increase hours on site.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

As an Apprentice you’ll be part of a small ambitious business working on industrial and commercial sites across the UK building management systems, energy metering and carrying out electrical installation work.
Your main duties are:

  • Help ensure all the parts are available for each project
  • Help the electrician set up the working area
  • Help the electrician install containment, this will include drilling, fixing and engineering conduit and trunking
  • Help the electrician wire terminate equipment
  • Help with commissioning
  • Help with fault finding
  • Help with writing up documentation
  • Help with any other duties that are deemed necessary for the smooth running of the business

  • Tenant metering systems

Other requirements

We have a wide customer base who are spread throughout the UK, due to this, our projects often involve travelling and/or staying out overnight whilst working on the projects. Ideally the applicant will hold or be working towards a full UK Driving Licence. Whilst working away, separate rooms, and a generous food allowance is provided. We also cover travel time within the engineers paid hours. As a responsible employer we are required to carry out the appropriate checks to ensure you are legally entitled to work in the UK. Due to the nature of our works, which can range from electrical surveying, BMS installations, service visits, metering installations, each week will be different. Working at height is required, mostly this is from GRP steps, however aluminium tower and if needed we use MEWPS. Full accredited training is provided. Some of our clients require us to carry out enhanced DBS checks on any employees working on their sites, with some sites having age restrictions therefore ideally the applicant should be at least 18. MPS specialise in the installation of Building Management and Energy monitoring systems in the commercial and Industrial sectors We are split into two divisions: MPS Connect and MPS Energy. MPS Connect is an official Tridium Systems Integrator and we have a team of directly employed electrical/controls engineers installing BMS and IOT technology. MPS Energy installs sub metering solutions and carries out a range of metering audits. We do not sub-contract work, which ensures we are able to maintain an extremely high standard of installation work and ongoing customer service.

After this apprenticeship

Our aim for all apprentices is to complete full electrical training.
If you show good software, IT and logical skills, there could be an opportunity to move towards BMS engineer training.
