Blidworth Oaks Primary School is looking for an apprentice to join the small facilities team who look after the school buildings to ensure they are clean, safe and fully operational. You will also spend time working at Healthlands and Lake View Primary Schools in Rainworth and will gain experience in planned and reactive maintenance.

Hours You will work 7.5hrs Monday-Thursday and 7hrs on Fridays. During term time the role would be on a 2-week work pattern: • Week 1 – Earlies – 7am start. • Week 2 – Afters – 10am start • School Holidays – Days – From 8am 37.0 hours a week

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
You will work as part of a team that is responsible for the security of the school estate and its contents and supports the effective running of the three school sites. You will also assist in maintaining and repairing elements of the buildings and fixtures and fittings as directed.
You will receive full training in all aspects of your role.
Main Responsibilities:
Opening and closing of school sites as required during school opening hours to meet the needs of the school
Ensuring that all the exterior areas including artificial/grassed areas, landscaped areas, gardens and open spaces are maintained in a safe and clean condition including litter picking and emptying of rubbish bins
Carrying out porterage duties as and when required
Recording all deliveries and maintain the required stock levels and ensure that adequate supplies are maintained to meet the needs of the establishment
Assisting external agencies and working with contractors in dealing with matters concerning building maintenance
Cleaning of drains and gulleys
Salting and de-icing during winter months to ensure safe access to premises
Property maintenance, including minor repairs and redecoration as directed
Setting out and putting away furniture in line with operational requirements
Undertaking any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities/grade of the post as defined, subject to the proviso that normally any changes of a permanent nature shall be incorporated into the job description in specific terms
Health and safety:
Completion of weekly/monthly/termly site compliance checks as directed by Site Manager
To carry out basic DIY works within the individual’s skills and capabilities, and having due regard to health and safety requirements
Inputting of Health and Safety information and documentation onto electronic systems
Taking reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by their activities and, where appropriate, safeguarding the health and safety of all persons under their control and guidance in accordance with the provision of Health and Safety legislation
Promote the safety and wellbeing of staff and pupils, and help to safeguard pupils’ well-being by following the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education and our school’s child protection policy
Professional development:
Help keep their own knowledge and understanding relevant and up-to-date by reflecting on their own practice, liaising with school leaders, and identifying relevant professional development to improve personal effectiveness
Take opportunities to build the appropriate skills, qualifications, and/or experience needed for the role, with support from the school

This programme is delivered via a day release delivery model which means that one day per week, your attendance is required at our Construction Campus (NG17). This attendance is required during term time only.
You will work with expert assessors and tutors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.
