Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

  • 2nd fix carpentry
  • Cabinetry fitting

  • Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship Standard
  • The apprentice will be required to undertake apprenticeship training at Harlow College
  • This occupation is found in both the new build and refurbishment construction sector
  • The construction industry is central to creating the homes, schools, hospitals, energy and transport infrastructure society needs
  • There is a growing demand for carpenters and joiners to help meet the need for new homes
  • The broad purpose of the occupation is working with building materials (most often wood) to create and install building components This typically involves shaping and cutting materials, installing finished materials like partitions, doors, staircases, window frames, mouldings, timber floor coverings and erecting structural components such as floor joists and roofs. All work needs to be carried out safely, using the appropriate tools and to the quality specified
  • A site carpenter will prepare and install basic building components e.g. doors, straight staircases, wall and floor units and erect structural carpentry and roof structures on a building site or in domestic and commercial premises, as well as repairs to our client's portfolio of stock

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade Grade 2 or higher)
  • Maths (grade Grade 2 or higher)

Other requirements

Basic knowledge of carpentry and associated hand tools. A good eye for a high standard of workmanship – achieving this high standard can then be learnt. Working in all weathers Use of scaffolding, towers and ladders. Getting involved to help other trades with their work under time pressures.

About this company

We are principal contractors taking control of high end large 200m2 plus development, redevelopment, conversion and refurbishment of older more specialized buildings. Listed buildings, barn conversions and new builds are usual site types.

After this apprenticeship

Joining the Harberry Homes Team on a permanent PAYE basis as specialist carpenter with broad general building skills and knowledge.
