Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship

Summary

We are currently looking for candidates who are interested in becoming apprentices and joining the carpentry sector of the building world. This will be a 3-year course where you'll work under the guidance and direction of an experienced carpenter or craftsperson. You’ll carry out all aspects of carpentry from new-built homes to refurbishments.

Hours
Monday - Friday, 7.30am - 4.30pm, but you will have 1 day a week at college (TBC).
40.0 hours a week

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Learn the process of understanding drawings and work in accordance with specifications
  • Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
  • Follow health & safety policy and procedures, including the wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE) where needed
  • Use various tools, equipment and materials safely

  • Joists
  • Roofing
  • First fixing
  • Window installation
  • Cladding
  • Decking
  • Second fixing
  • Kitchen installation
  • Finals

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training plan

  • During this course you will be attending college once a week with the rest of the week spent on site
  • The college course will be 2 years and once it's completed you will gain your Level 2 in Carpentry and Joinery and spend the final year as an improver honing your skills
  • Functional skills level 2 in English and maths (if required)

Essential qualifications

Other in:

  • CSCS Card (grade This is required for site work)

Desirable qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • Maths and English (grade Minimum Level 3)

After this apprenticeship
